Virtual study visit in the Klaipeda University Marine Research Institute Fisheries & Aquaculture Laboratory – Klaipeda, Lithuania

Located at the beautifull Curonian Spit, Klaipeda University Marine Research Institute Fisheries and Aquaculture Laboratory is presenting one of its activities – aquaculture.

During the virtual study visit the infrastructure and activities of the laboratory are presented by aquaculture specialist Gintautas Narvilas. At first we are introduced to the laboratory’s recirculating aquaculture systems, where development of fresh and brackish water aquaculture takes place.

Different aspects of technology are presented, such as: biosecurity for aquaculture, diseases, their prevention and management, daily routine in the facility, main recirculating aquaculture system components, and feeding management.

At the end of the virtual tour two experiments, carried out in the Klaipeda University Marine Research Institute Fisheries and Aquculture Laboratory, including their objectives and results, are presented.

  • Testing of new feed efficiency on growth of rainbow trout
  • Effects of different salinity levels on growth and reproduction of Nile tilapia
